I’ve been trying to get into the top tier Associate Product Marketing Manager position Google for some time now for just an interview and I feel like business majors somehow have such a stronger chance in getting interviewed especially my business school and I feel really discouraged as an Econ Major and I have a lot of marketing experience that I’ve built over the years. Are there any non-business majors in the tech realm in non technical positions at Google that can advise me?

I have been working in the construction industry for 2 years under a general contractor. I am wanting to get into consulting and my ideal role would be something like an Associate in Major Projects Advisory with KPMG. I’m curious to know which firms/companies have positions and departments like the one mentioned that I could apply for?
Hello people, how common is a Amazon to PWC move ?
I’m interviewing for a Senior Associate role and TC seems to be more competitive than role in L5.
TC $114k- Base AMZ- $73k +$38kstocks ( vesting 17k$ due next year)
TC $135k Base PWC -$81$ + Bonuses ( 50k$)
Looking for managerial skills which the PWC role avails, and L6 promo doesn’t seem to be happening soon in current role. I’m also mentally stretched. I hear WLB in PWC is just as busy but can anyone confirm if this move makes any sense. Google Amazon

I say go for it - it sounds like you are making a well thought out choice and you never know what is on the other side. Sometimes it is a bigger risk to stay in a nowhere job, than to take that first step forward. I am rooting for you!
Thank you for the encouragement!
I also quit my job with nothing lined up! It’s amazing. I’m in Mexico City freelancing for a month. 😍 I was also terrified but I know it’s the best decision I’ve ever made.
Good luck! You’ll be fine!
I left my job in early October - am currently job searching and also trying to find consulting work. I am so glad I left. I had become really depressed, repetitive in my thought patterns (in an unhealthful way), and quite grumpy. It had become so hard for me to put things in perspective. I do feel very very grateful that I am able to not be working right now. I certainly can’t be out of the workforce indefinitely but I do not regret my decision - even though the economy is not great.
Omg I am in the same boat. I didn't get a promotion and my boss and workplace also toxic, I am debating and dreaming of walking out da door
Thank you for the optimism!
I will post an update here once I find a new job!
Do it!! I quit my job and spent 3 months just traveling! Now I have the job of my dreams and I’m remote so I’m still able to travel! Good luck!
I’m an analyst! Lol and yes I am remote! Which I love so I’m still currently traveling while working
That means no unemployment. People are having hard times finding a new job & many are out of work longer than expected. Maybe wait until you have nailed another job.
I agree. I would NOT want to be out here looking for a job with the 45,000+ top tier employees from FAANG, FinTech, and Twitter employees recently laid off. It’s about to get insanely competitive in the job market especially in graphic design. Even in an up economy I’d never leave a job before I had another one lined up. Keyword - LEAVE. Can’t help getting laid off or fired.
Left my on-the-outside very successful career beginning of this year after 10+ years in the same profession. My greatest fear was what's next. I had so much fear that I dragged on for a long period. I went back to study in a completely new field. But, it's the best decision I could have done for myself. Once you're free of your fears and see the world, you see all the opportunities that you've missed. There's so much that you could do, so many places you could work. The number of new contacts I've made is incredible. You're going to be okay. And you're going to be so much happier and proud of yourself and courage.
I worked as a corporate lawyer, both as a practicing advocate and in-house to MNCs. I left to do a Global MBA and currently interns for a venture capital firm, meeting 30+ founders a week!
It's easier to find a job when you already have one. I'd suggest that you just start coasting, it will probably take them a while to even get the paper work started to get rid of you, and then they'll have to pay you unemployment. Just mentally check out now.
Yes do that minimum required and job hunt at the same time.
Must have a lot of money saved up and no bills! The recession is here whether you wanna admit it or not and companies are laying off people left and right and it’s only gonna get worse. I would think twice about leaving a job where you get a paycheck unless you are rich and have a ton of money saved up and no bills.

Inflation is coming down, unemployment is low, and the layoffs have been concentrated in tech and mostly just brought headcount down to what it was in the recent past. It’s always a good idea to have a job before you leave your current one but it’s not like we’re in disastrous economic circumstances.

Don’t let the media from looking for something more fulfilling. Fear will never lead you to anything and you have one life to live. Career development is so important these days. To remain competitive in the market you need to continue grow, learn and develop new skills to allow you to bounce back☺️good luck 🤞🏼
Exactly my line of thinking. I’m one of the sole remote workers at my workplace after I moved states during the pandemic. I feel like I’m missing out on professional growth and relationships that I sorely need in my budding career. Looking for a hybrid position for more balance. And YES to remaining competitive. If I have not felt challenged creatively in the past 6 months, seems like a good time to move myself onward and upward.
I did the same this week - very excited for you! There are a lot of naysayers here but honestly, you will figure something out, one way or another. Life is too short to remain in a situation that is bad enough to prompt a decision like that.
The night I posted this, most reactions were negative, which was not very encouraging. But now are mostly supportive. I still turned in my resignation letter and I still feel like it was the right choice. Thanks for your optimism! And good luck to you too!

An update: excited to report I just received an offer I’m going to accept for $20k more than what I was making in my previous role. It took me 2.5 months to get here.
Even though I technically haven’t started yet, I’m just here to state that it’s totally possible to quit your job and be hired with a gap in your resume, if you’re smart about it (savings, timing).
A few tips I’ve learned:
-take the extra time to align your resume and cover letter (if applicable) with the job description. Keywords are important.
-February/late January has been the month that I’ve received the most call backs and interviews. December and first two weeks of January was pretty quiet.
-have a smart reason for quitting previous role–mine was that I moved so it was logical. But for remote jobs I interviewed at, I made sure to turn it into a positive, such as wanting to expand my skills and wanting to begin freelance for the opportunity to own projects from start to finish.
Thanks for all the advice I received here!

Thank you!!
It depends on how much money you have saved up, what your options are to mitigate costs (parental funds, spousal health insurance, cohabitation with partner), whether your funds will cover your expenses (rent, health insurance, travel), how long will they cover expenses, how easy is it to get another job, how picky are you about jobs (specific preferences, niche space, career trajectory expectations), alternative plans for your savings (downpayment on house, future degree, travel). If you have a plan in place and determined you’re fine, sure. If not, would not resign tomorrow.
Good luck!!
Absolutely not, if you can do it. I would advise riding the motivation wave and applying to anything and everything that feels engaging, even if you think its a reach for your qualifications. It sounds like you need to be challenged and reflect that clearly in your application process. You got this!!! And congrats.
Thank you for your positivity and encouragement! I do thrive in a more challenging environment and want to continue advancing toward my career goals. Where I’m at now has plateaued in advancements.
Go for it. Mental well-being comes first.
Lol. Honestly, this is great wisdom if you have someone else to provide a safety net.
If you already decided, why are you asking here?
Because you have doubts, yea, looking outside to the world is scary and makes us questiona lot, naturally. And you're looking for validation of your decision. But you dont need it. You looked in, you decided, go for it, dont let fear drag you down.
That's it. And this is coming from a very rational person who thinks 17373839 times before taking pretty much any step. But sometimes we just have to do it. Be Nike. 👊🏻
Do it. You only have one life and your happiness is what’s most important. I have left two jobs because of this - one of which I didn’t have anything lined up. Best decision I ever made. I had a new job within two months.
You got thisssss
Thank you Data engineer !!!
If you can afford to quit without having another job do it! Life’s too short!
Thank you, resignation letter was handed in ✅
I did the same thing! Taking this time to do a sabbatical and figure out what I want to be doing. These kind of decisions are extremely personal and everyone has different situations. For all of those people who say this is a bad time - there’s also a ton of companies hiring right now. BTW this is not the first time I’ve quit without another job lined up…the last time was in 2008, and I’ll tell you I was fine then too! I’ve always been confident in what I can offer and what value I can bring to the company, been open to trying new things (I.e., I have done all types of jobs), and constantly learning and embracing change. (In addition to having a really tight resume, portfolio and constantly brushing up on interview skills.) Sometimes “playing it safe” keeps you in situations that compromise your mental health, and we truly don’t know how long waiting until the economy picks up could be. I love that you are scared but excited - those types of feelings have always fueled the fire for me and encouraged me to keep going!!
Another thing I’ll say is just make sure you have the right expectations. A friend recently told me she took about 8 months and hundreds of resumes, lots of interviews to find the job she is thriving in now. So, be prepared that it could take a long time.
I think you’ll be good!! If you get in a rut, don’t forget about head hunters, contract work and temp agencies, and use your connections! YOU GOT THIS! GOOD LUCK!

Thank you!! I love your attitude and optimism. I am very logical and like I mentioned in the original post, I am not one to take risks like this, but I feel this is the right time to take a leap. I am confident in what I can bring to the table, as you are, and have work to back it up. Wishing you well on your sabbatical and figuring out your path!!
